  • SU sun

I have read about relationship between SU sun (read shadow position) and render output. My understanding is that sun is in effect Default lights. I am finding that this works sometimes and sometimes not. I am finding that shadow direction is kind of hit and miss. With default preset it is ok but most other presets are having direction which changes with presets themselves. How can I have predictable shadows which are same as in SU in all my renders? I like quality of Universal settings preset
but shadows do not match. What am I doing wrong.

      Re: SU sun

The last one. Only bought it couple of days ago. I decided to write my own preset so found resonably good balnce ...and my shadows are correct now.
Btw what is the best way to have glass not showing reversed face.

        Re: SU sun

To get the V-Ray sun you have to add a Sky map to the Environment section in the Options.
If you do not have a Sky map in the Enviroment, but have Default Light checked under General Switches you'll get a directional light positioned in the SU's sun position.

Before SR1.5 the V-Ray Sky was on by default. But from Su1.5 the V-Ray Sky was off by default so you have to manually enable it.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Thanks Thomthom. What is actuall diferrence between directional light and Vray sun...
Will Vray sun be still matching position of Su sun?
edit: sorry you were talking about Vray sky... got it.
