  • Note to self - On V-Ray Two-Sided Material

I have done the same thing before - wondered why I couldn't get the Two-Sided material to give the translucent look I wanted - and I did the same thing now. So I'm writing this note to myself for the next time I do this:

    Enable Force 1-sided sub-materials!

    Hi ThomThom,

I really could have some use with your 2sided material setting ...

I can't get it works since noon ...

    Thanks

The only thing I had to do to make it work was check the Force 1-sided sub-materials checkbox for the Two Sided Material.

In VfSU it's off by default - despite that the V-RAy manual says: http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150R...ded_params.htm
Force single-sided sub-materials - when is is on (the default), the sub-materials will render as one-sided materials. Turning this option off is not recommended.

Other than that - check the direction of the face. And also check if you have enough light contrast between the two sides.

What is the material that should be use in front ? Diffuse ? tranparent ? Fabrics fall off ?

I've not used it much. Using it currently on this project: http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=6749.0

The curtains - I have the same texture on both sides. No opacity. It's just the light from the Sun that shines through. I think I have 0.5 translucency - maybe less.

                    Hi 40th,

Just a simple fabric texture in diffuse slot.. no transparency, no bump.

It is just too bad we can't assign a map in the translucency setting...
