  • Looking for help in rendering fire in VRay for Sketch-up.

    Hi,

I have been working with VRay for Sketch-up for some time now but I have just run into a problem I can't solve and I couldn't find a good topic on this subject. We are trying to render a space with a very large fireplace as the main design element. The hope is that we will be able to render the space showing the flame in the fireplace and have the flames "reflections" and light affect the space. So far I have been unsuccessful in my attempts to get this to work. Does anyone out there have any suggestions for this? I currently have an image of the flame we want that I edited in PS. Your help is much appreciated.

    Thanks!

See attached rendering. This was used with a fire texture used in the emissive layer slot.

the rendering is AWESOME... VERY photorealistic. Too bad I hated those walls... baby blue on the bottom half and brown on the upper half, with white ovals? WHAT?

That is a nice rendering for sure, but I'm looking to see the actual flame. We are trying to accent a space with a large gas fireplace.

        Thanks for your input!

Not sure if this helps or not. But the attached bedroom was done to test out lights etc. The fire image (I think you said you had one) can be made to be emmissive, and I added an omni light (orange light) just above the fire grate. You can see the shadow of the grate on the fireplace floor.

That's what we are looking for, Nigel! How did you get the surrounding negative space around the flame to disappear? I did bring the image I have into the model and made it emissive but the black background will not go away. Your image looks like it's just the flame which is what I'm trying to do but I can't seem to make that work. Can you send an example of what you mean?

Thanks a lot for the input!

If you send me an email address I'll send the model, and you can play with it.

              Thanks
