    Re: GH House Challenge progress

The problem is with all the will in the world, sketchup just never cuts it in these challenges. Some of these guys have access to serious amounts of kit to produce their images. A bit of a step up from a $1k cost of SU + vray!

You can do this with SU+VfSU. FreeAgent for instance has done great stuff that would fit right in.
V-Ray is V-Ray, and SU is just another modelling tool.
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

To a certain extent I would agree with you. But sketchup is still limited by memory and polygon count issues which make it an underdog in these challenges.

From the examples posted in the OP, the interior and still scenes would be no problem in SU. Even some of the exteriors would be doable without straining SU too much.

With SU7.1 it has even become considerable easier to work with heavier models.

;D If only. It's my own skill that's the problem. (plus, I just had eye surgery, and my right eye isn't fully recovered. So no real possibility of even an attempt... )

                    Re: GH House Challenge progress

I've got to say SU's limited UV mapping tools and VfSU's lack of proxy support would make most of those exterior images more or less impossible with an SU/VfSU workflow IMO. I've done tests with individual poly grass blades and VfSU will happily render them with enough RAM loaded, but SU dies on its @rse, even with the grass on an invisible layer. :-[ That's not to say we shouldn't keep trying to push the boundaries!

p.s. Thom- hope your eye is better asap.

Yes, I started a challenge a few months back on another site and it was the sketchup UV tools that pretty much ended my entry. I have high hopes for verion 8 but my guess is it will still be pretty limited as its always been a 'sketch' tool. One of these days I will have to ditch it and move to another platform like Modo.
