Re: Vray for Sketchup (VfSU) for MAC - Documentation

By blend materials I mean loading a diffuse bitmap and doing HSB adjustments in the SU Material Editor, from which VfSU creates a blend material. As we all know these materials end up rendering horribly desaturated/faded. Much better to adjust the diffuse bitmap using Photoshop first and then load it in the SU Material Editor without any HSB adjustments so the diffuse bitmap renders WYSIWYG.

Obviously other more advanced blend material types are really useful (esp for GI), but IMO the VfSU manual really ought to point out that the default blend materials which it generates from SU materials are a compromise and can cause unwanted results.

Ah! yea. that type of blend. Yea - that reminds me - I meant to check if the new beta has changed that so it blends properly matching what SU does.

Another thing that should be mentioned in the manual is that if you at any layer in your V-Ray material have a map, you need UV co-ordinates, and the only way to get UV coordinates is to have a texture in the SU diffuse layer. It's worth mentioning methods for when you want a plain colour in diffuse but still have a bump map, displacement map etc.

also maybe mention that EMISSIVE material should be applied to a 3d object not just a face. (i.e. give the screen surface a thickness) - else it does not emit any light.

(or - is this a beta bug ?)

I have never had problems like that with emisive materials. I use it on "thin" object all the time.

(if you have something you suspect is a beta issue then post in the beta forum first.)

well yeah, as long as the object is THIN it works. but if you apply it to a rectangle only - with no thickness - it does not emit light. it is shining in itself but does not emit (to surrounding things) ...

I meant "thin" as in just a face with no thickness. That's all you need - at least in the current stable version.

well objects with NO depth ( no thickness) have no emitting factor here. im BETA. .. i will test this more thouroughly later (finishing something) and post in BETA thread if necessary

Hard to say, it's a lot of material to cover. Nobody here really has time to write it all right now.

Something i would like to see covered in the manual is rendering animations from SU. Thanks.

God, i missed this post for no reason.

thomthom, thx for the link to that manual, its awesome compared with any vray tutorial over there (the "official" vray tutorials only explain the basics , as the creator of the post said).
