To setup a background image you can do it in couple ways:
1. http://forum.asgvis.com/index.php?topic=4942.0
2. Environment>Background>m>bitmap. select the image you want and adjust the intensity value.

It depends on what you trying to accomplish, for sky background I recommend using the second way.

Just out of curiosity, how did you get that sky background in the Sketchup model? Is it just a flat image of the sky placed behind the house?

i will try that thanks, the sky is an image of the internet used as a watermark seems to look okay just wondered whether it would render as you can get some nice sky images on the internet.
