    Re: SketchUp 8!

Really upset about sketchup, I have to learn another sofware, last night I had a dream the dream was one of my design with thousand of polygons a lot of beautyful trees like in max renders, I am tired of using clip maps or background pictures or transparecy map in order to have a good tree in my renders.
But for sketchup that is just a dream. :-\

      Re: SketchUp 8!

Havent had the opportunity to check it out yet, but it doesnt sound like I am missing much. I am sure someone has already thought of this idea and I should probably be asking on the SU Forum, but is it even possible to consider proxies or xref's ever becoming part of SU/vray. Supporting millions of polygons does not seem to ever really be happening, and not to burst anyone's bubble, but 3ds max really cant support that many polygons like some people may think for these huge scenes with vast environments. Yeah it can support a lot more than SU, but it rely's on proxies when you see scenes with all kinds of trees, vegetation, and etc.

I have been able to get some pretty high poly trees from evermotion into a single SU scene, but the scene is not stable when adding more to it, and if you could save that file and xref it into a scene like in autocad, or proxies in max, that would be a huge solution to this polygon problem. Or is that not possible because of SU's core engine? I apologize if this is a repeat question or if im taking a different way of asking the same thing, but I think the problem needs to be attacked from a different angle than just wanting millions of polygons in any scene because thats never gonna happen. Just a thought of mine.

My testing indicates it works fine if you correct the path when installing V-Ray but I am still going at it. Anyone else who's playing with it let me know how it works for you.
No luck yet- It wouldn't let me browse so i changed the path by typing an 8 over the 7...it wants to uninstall a previous version first! it better not be talking about my SU7 vfsu!! i force quit that install.

        UPDATE:
I uninstalled it from SU7 and installed it in SU8 then reinstalled it in SU7- seems fine.

No... this is odd. I had VfSU installed for my SU7 installation. I installed SU8 and ran the VfSU installer again. It let me pick the SU8 folder and it installed it without removing the old one.

Are you on Windows or OSX? Also, what version?
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Yea - all the various packages out there reply on some kind of proxy system to get all that data processed. SU's holdback here is that it doesn't support proxies because it's not designed as a render host. SU has it's sketchup live render viewport that is a WYSIWUG system. All these other packages isn't like that. They use simplifications to represent what will really be rendered.

I think, if I remember correctly, that proxies hadn't been exposed to the V-Ray SDK previously. So it could not been implemented. Not sure if it's available now, think it is, but the implementation isn't easy. One would have to make a system and UI to make it work in SU. Some way to make a component reference another component on disk.

Proxies would be great - but I fear that we'd run into problems of using up the memory since VfSU runs inside SU's 32bit system. And SU isn't going 64bit any time soon. I think VfSU would need to run in 64bit space in order for us to fully enjoy proxies.

                      Re: SketchUp 8!

My dream was Google and Asgvis worked together to release SU8 and VFSU that supports 64bit space! and of course fixed all the problems related to SU and vray ;D
                      ----------------------------------------------
All I can say is that SU has its own style on modeling/presenting architectural and other works. "SU has it's sketchup live render viewport that is a WYSIWUG system" as thomthom said. really, a what you see is what you get system. Though high poly counts make it kind of hard to work in the 3d model space. especially putting a lot of details.

as for the ASGVIS team, you have done a great job! I have witnessed your rapid progress even though I am new to this CG thing haha. keep up the good work!

                        Re: SketchUp 8!

We can start yelling at Google about their product, once we finish fixing our own. Who knows, maybe we can talk some sense in to them one day... Not likely, but crazier things have happened! In the meantime we'll try to live up to the praise, and keep pumping out updates. (btw, in case any beta testers missed it, 1.48.92 is ready to be tested!)

                            But tell me.
What they talked about in the SketchUp 8 in event 3D Basecamp?

From what I read on some blogs, the Google chose some participants the 3D Basecamp 2010, to be part of the Beta Team. Is this true?

The person who wrote that post said that he was a part of the SketchUp 8 beta, and he got to use it before it came out. So I think you have it backwards. I believe you can sign up to be a SketchUp 8 beta tester on their website. We were beta testers. We didn't really use the beta version at all though, because our plugin didn't work with the beta version. It works with the final release though!

so migrating to sketchup 8 will not cause any problems with .92? o yeah!
one question though, does the maximize/minimize buttons of the frame buffer on .92 disabled?
