    Re: subdivision question

Even if you've set a high subd. value for the material the final result depends on the "Image Sampler" subdivision settings.

      Re: subdivision question

but what i have learnt from vray is that different materials react differently, if i increase subdivisions am increasing render times, which i always try to avoid, but with the material setting for a particular material is there no other way to control the reflectivity n shine n not require a high subdivision?

My man, you can't have your cake and eat it too.
If you want a good quality
Good quality = higher settings = longer render times.

That's why most people use low settings for testing and high settings for final render.

            Re: subdivision question

You can find settings that work for you time wise and quality wise. So you'll get decent quality in reasonable time.
