night renders

hey all, i have been doing alot night scens for events over the past year or two i upgraded to version 1.48.89 since then i have had quite a bit of difficulty rendering. day scenes are fine but once i turn off the environment and add my lights the programme practically always crashes is there anyone else that has experienced this?
