  • Rectangle light direction?

What am I doing wrong here, guys?

Notice how the light seems to wander to the left for both rectangle lights?

I can't find any direction parameters within the edit lights dialog box. Can it be set from somewhere else?

    Hi marvsweden,

Yes, the "rectangle light" emits only in one direction, but on settings of "Light Editor" has the possibility to choose "double sided" option.

Thank you for your reply. I know there how to set it to double sided. I'm trying to understand how to set the direction. If you study the image you can see how the light falls more to the left. Why is that?

I've never seen this. Which version of VR and SU? Could be a product of low sampling?

That is weird. What about your camera distortion? Field of view?

Very strange indeed, because if the problem have been origin in the "Rectangle light", the both would do to the same side, i.e. how they are with "backs" one against to the other, should have one for the left and one to the right!

Thank you for your replies. Sorry I havn't had the time to reply until now.
Apparently the problem had to do with the material on the back wall. I did some investigation and it all came down to whether I applied a bump or not to the material.
This is what it looks like with no bump.

..and when I apply a standard bump, no map, just checking the bump-box with the standard 1,0 value, this is what happens

Can anyone explain that to me? Is that normal behavior?

              I'm on SU 2014 and VRAY 2.00.24261.

if you set no texture for the bump, then you're passing the bump parameter an invalid value, and that could cause unexpected results. So I would say yes, this is normal.
                Best regards,

                  Thanks dkendig for the explanation.
So there are no situations where I should use bump without a map then?

No, there is no situation where you should use a bump without a mapping.
