Maybe I should take this in a Blender forum but as you seams to know little about blender, is there a way to make a animation go back to starting position? Maybe a strange question but I found that it was quite easy to make moving water and I thought about making a GIF for my website. The problem is that I would want to make a repeating GIF without any jump for the water if it's possible but that's maybe not the case?

      Hi!

Moving water? Do you want to make a fluid simulation? Or you just want to make some ripple effects? There are quite a lot of video tutorials in U2B about making all these stuff.

I meant like a ocean but I got the answer on Reddit
Should probably make the ocean higher resolution and bigger so it don't get repeated so often but then I will have a lot of rendering to do again :S

I thought moving water was nicer so I started tested that and get good result but now then I tried to make a tree Sketchup don't want to open the abc file, any idea what can make sketchup and Vray prevent the import? Then I made a tree looking as I wanted it became a abc file of 5 GB so maybe that's a bit to much but I do have 16 GB of ram and even if I try to make a really simple tree of 250 MB it won't open it. Anyone have an idea of way Vray wont open ABC files? Sometimes it does come up under geometry in V-ray Asset editor but I don't see it even in Sketchup or renderings.

Can you send your abc file and blender file to dev team to let them figure it out?

I guess your issue is related to curve object.

Blender export curve as curve object which alembic supports natively. In other words, blender can not export curve object as a mesh object right now.

On the other hand, curve object might not be supported by Vray-Core(3.6) //I'm not sure, need someone from dev team to clearify.

for more information you can check:

            https://developer.blender.org/T51195

            https://developer.blender.org/T51195#430327

So make sure you did not export curve object which might cause Vray and Sketchup bugsplat.

            That's my 2 cent.

Now I did manage to import, both a smaller file on about 250 MB and a bigger file on 1,1 GB but then I click render the render window open but get white.

Is the problem that Vray can't handle the object?

Now it does render a blue cube before going white, a bit of progress as for time before giving up but not even close to how it suppose to be...

                  They are supported.
We are looking into the issues with loading certain alembic files.
If you're having trouble loading a specific file (SketchUp hangs), try creating a V-Ray Proxy and load a random .vrmesh file, then open the proxy settings and switch the .vrmesh with the .abc and let us know whether this works by sending an email at support@chaosgroup.com and including the .abc file for investigation, if possible.

                  Kind regards,
                  Peter

I'm not completely sure that I understood it right but I tried but it didn't help so I send a email with the file and mention this thread is it's to any help.

                      Hi guys,

As Peter pointed out we have issues with importing specific abc files.
It is not SketchUp specific and can also be experienced in 3ds Max for example.

As a temporary workaround you can utilize the ply2vrmesh.exe tool that ships with V-Ray and convert the .abc file to .vrmesh.
The workflow for doing that is the following:

                      > Navigate to the following folder .\Chaos Group\V-Ray\V-Ray for SketchUp\extension\tools\tools...
                      > Shift + Right Click anywhere in the folder and choose 'Open command window here' or 'Open PowerShell window here'
/ As alternative you can open the command window anywhere and write 'cd ' (there is a space after the 'cd') and paste the path to the tools folder
                      > In the command window you should write: ply2vrmesh
/ If you're using PowerShell you should write: .\ply2vrmesh
                      > Add a 'space'
                      > Drag and drop the .abc file in the command window
                      > Click Enter
                      > As a result a .vrmesh file will be saved in the same location as the source file
                      > Even if the alembic was crashing on import, the resulting .vrmesh should import normally

                      Hope that helps.

                      Regards,
                      Konstantin

For Mac users, open the Terminal application. First drag the ply2vrmesh.bin file in the terminal window and then drag the .abc file in the terminal window. The ply2vrmesh.bin is in the same location as Konstantin described in the Applications folder.

                        Best,

Have you found out any solution on the problem or is new animation function in Vray limited?
