  • ies lighting - linear light option

Right now ies lights are only point sources. I would like a feature to use linear sources with ies files (like fluorescent fixtures) I am coming to this from my experience with Lightscape, I don't know how this option works in more current competing software.
    Thanks,

    Andy

Definitely another vote for this. Doing some industrial work and need a way to do actual fluorescent tubes with reflectors rather than just a rectangular light to mimic a fluorescent ceiling fixture.

hmm, now that Vray for SU is connected to the Chaos Group universe, I'd like to pose a question for the vray users on other platforms - can you use linear ies light sources with vray in Max or Maya? I'd like to know if it is a capability in vray that just hasn't made it to vfsu, or if it's not part of the vray repertory at all.
          Cheers,

          Andy

For the moment, you will only get the shadows as though they are coming from a linear light, but the light distribution itself will remain point-like. It is planned to add an option to smear the IES provile along the light length, but this is not yet implemented in any V-Ray version.

            Best regards,
