  • Vray Next GPU and Phoenix FD Problems

Hi, we just updated to the new Vray Next, in our daily workflow we use Vray and Phoenix Fd, but when we try to render using the GPU we have this 2 situations:

    - Phoenix FD Ocean Texture seems to be not compatible, is still like this?

    - Guessing that Phoenix Ocean Texture doesn't work, we simulate a sequence using PhoenixFD Liquid container with really low parameters and small size, because we only need the ocean environment and we need to render really fast during the weekend, that's the reason of using GPU, the problem is that if we render one frame it works, but when we want to render a sequence it renders only one frame and then stops, if I render a single box this doesn’t happens, but when PhoenixFD goes into the equation it does.

    - Any recomendations about the GPU + PhoenixFD workflow? I only need the ocean surface, no need of any interaction.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

The ocean texture will work on V-Ray GPU only using the Phoenix FD simulator - if you try to use it only as a displacement map for another geometry it won't work.

Can you try to get a latest Phoenix nightly build and try again?

If you only need the ocean surface you can make an empty simulator and use the Pure Ocean option to render without simulating.

Is this still the case, can we not use the Ocean Shader with Vray GPU on a simple plane object?

You can use a Phoenix Ocean texture in a V-Ray Displacement Modifier over a plane, though the Vector Displacement option of the Ocean tex is not supported at the moment.
