Splitter off of MB? Plug below into above and the one already plugged in above goes to Power 1 below? The new power supply would go into Power 2? The new power supply in Power 2 would get plugged into the new 2080ti?

I ended up buying two 1080ti's for $850 each. They are the blower ones, each only needing one 8-pin and one 6-pin, which is what I have. Straight forward and it'll get the job done. If the GPU render works out I can get a couple risers, a couple 2080ti's, with the extra power supply. I'll put my current 1080ti's on eBay and from what it looks, it may go for $600. Again, thank you for the help.

Congrats on the new cards Bobby!
850 USD is quite good for your new 1080Tis, you took the easiest route so no need to install a riser or an external power.
.. Are your new cards Founders Edition or Blower style from PNY?
Your old 1080Ti should sell for around 500-600, don't mind the crazy prices on ebay. Thing is that for 800 you can get a 2080 which is the same speed in gaming ,but for rendering the 1080ti is better because it has 11 GB of VRAM
So your 2 cards with your 2 CPUs should be quite an upgrade really over your old workflow using CPU, should be 2-3 times faster considering you will still be using your CPUs with Hybird rendering
The 24pin splitter, you got it right.. and you can connect all GPUs to the external power supply if you want, it doesn't really matter
The other picture where you ask about Mobo power, this is probably for USB2/3 on your case, but might be something else as you are using Dual Xeons
there is 2x8pin for your CPUs on the other side of Mobo next to the 24 pin

I got the Blower style from PNY. I didn't get a 24pin splitter. The Blower style from PNY has one 8-pin and one 6-pin, which I have two of each, which is what I'll need for the two new 1080ti's. I am not sure why I would need the splitter unless I am missing something.

I updated the value of my current card - I was thinking of new prices.

Because there is no production anymore for the 1080tis, and there is still slight demand on them(Mac OS for example doesn't have support for RTX cards yet, so this community is still stuck on Pascal), so pricing go up
they should be around 700-800 or so.. Hybird cooling cards and Aorus Extreme could be at 1k, they have been always this expensive (again custom PCB, better cooling, and better performance)

When do you think Chaos will start charging for each video card ?

You don't need the splitter, I was replying to your other comment up there about how the splitter works(if you buy 2080tis for example and you needed external power)

Octane has a license that is locked to 2 GPUs, for like 20 Euros per month or something similar
Not sure if this could benefit our community though

Yep, mark my words, that's the route Chaos will take . Right now GPU is a loophole. I am anticipating restrictions with GPU, but it is a lot cheaper to scale using them. The way my MB looks, I can have four cards. It'll take risers and a new PS, but for $3000 I can double my speed again.

You definitely can add more cards, even up to 7 cards with your current board without losing much on the bandwidth
And if you are quite happy with GPU rendering to the point where you consider a new machine next year, do yourself a favor and drop Dell..
Checkout Maingear or Sebasitan Michalski, they do charge the same amount as Dell, but they are miles better in build quality
You can have up to 7 GPUs with Maingear, and 11 GPUs from Sebastian, all cards are watercooled in a custom design loop/case by them.
Their machines are such pieces of art, and your cards will be running at 50 degrees C silently
                        https://www.facebook.com/sebastian.michalski.796
                        maingear
On the other hand, Vray GPU is evolving really fast, we are getting out of core textures/Geometry soon, then we will get RTX support.. 2019 will be such a good year for GPU rendering

I will sure keep them in mind. I purchased this dell used for $5000 4 years ago. They replace the ram a couple of times and two motherboards; the warranty has been great. I think I have a year left, which is when I'll be looking for a new one.

Not sure why they are on the same price but a reasonable guess may be cause of RTX tech not being implemented on almost any gaming title yet or in any "affordable" tech side (that's gonna change soon though).
Also 1080Ti it's a solid GPU, and performing great in all fields, even minning, so there's still demand for those GPUs.

That could have happened since V-Ray 3.5 (performance wise) but it didn't. They could have split GPU from CPU since then as well, but they didn't.
I believe that's not their mentality!
Maybe Autodesk would have done it before they name the engine ...

When people stop using CPU and only GPU, they’ll have to monetize.
