Yes this kills performance so bad there's not even a point of using GPU rendering.

      Hey guys,

We don't have ETA on this request yet, it is not a trivial fix. Being able to keep resources between animation frames is high priority on the GPU roadmap, it is on-going effort for H2 as well

I've tried Fstorm and it can load bitmaps unbelievably fast and it compresses super fast using utilizing GPU for compression. I noticed with Vray if I hit compress textures so I can render a scene it will take 2 times longer, is it using CPU for compression? Maybe look to see what Fstorm is doing.

Fstorm will use nearly 3x more system memory than V-Ray GPU, and using texture compression affects render times in Fstorm as well.
Our texture compression is done on GPU, but we are looking into ways for making it faster. This is the first version of our texture compression in 6.1, our plans is to make it better/faster with time
And yeah Fstorm loads bitmaps faster, we are aware of that and we will be testing any fixes and changes against Fstorm and other renderers

Main problem is texture loading on every frame. Not sure if fstorm do that but I dont think so.

              Hi Muhhamed and Donfarese

I didnt know that the compressed texture mode for vray gpu makes the render slow.

So if i render with vray gpu a scene with full size textures and if it takes 3 hours

With compressed textures is this going to be like 4 hours and 30 min to render?

I havent tested compressed textures mode, but that information is important domfarase, thanks for share that.

Muhhamed please dont forget to make it better for vray gpu users for sketchup.

We deserve a better compression texture mode for vray gpu sketchup users as much as vray gpu for 3d max and vray gpu for maya

As you already know, with vray gpu for sketchup sometimes we do heavy scenes and optimized compression textures mode can help us to render heavier scenes without loosing time.

              Thanks Muhhamed

                Hello everyone,

This is now fixed with V-Ray 6 update 2

                  Hey Muhammed,

I noticed today that V-Ray GPU 6 update 2.1 still spends time "loading bitmaps" each frame, that can seemingly takes ages. This isn't expected behavior anymore correct?

                    Hey mace_group

It should only happen on the first frame, in the log it will tell you that your textures are cached after the first frame
We need more information about this, what do you see in the log?
did you animate some of the parameters on the bitmaps?

                    Best,
                    Muhammed
