Less of a GPU rendering question, and more of an interface performance question...I was wondering if any has had any experience with upgrading from a lowly 1080ti or similar to a 30 series card, and how that afffected texture loading, or heavy asset manipulation.

The more ram the better. I updated from a 2070 to a 3060 with 12 gb. In scenes with a lot of textures it feels a lot smoother. Specially if you have other tools like substance open at the same time.

CPU single threaded performance is a big factor, this applies to both 3Ds Max and Maya
Something like a 3060 12 GB should be ideal for viewport performance, it will be a lot faster than a 1080ti
a 3080ti or a 3090 will not be that much faster than a 3060 for viewport performance, the CPU bottleneck becomes more obvious
The new CPUs, 13900k and R9 7950X will help a lot. They have good single threaded performance

Ive got a 3990x so not amazing single thread....but I havnt compared to lower core count cpus. Thats interesting about the 3060 possibly being as potent in viewport performance as a more expensive card...that could save a chunk of change.Last edited by seandunderdale; 14-11-2022, 03:35 AM.
