  • VRay RT Questions

I haven't tried VRay RT yet, but I have a few questions:

    1. Can VRay RT save out image sequences based on a camera path? For example if I have a camera that is 300 frames, can VRay RT follow this camera and save out 300 frames as an image sequence? Much faster then using the usual rendering technique?

    2. I've been seeing videos of VRay RT and GPU rendering as a coming soon option. Im sure this will be an update to VRay RT, is that correct? If so, will it cost? I don't want to buy VRay RT right now then find out a new version that is GPU supported comes out next month and I must buy it again.

    3. I have two machines, is it possible to use both machines to display VRay RT information? Like distributing rendering does?

    4. Can VRay RT use pre-calc files? For example I have a irradiance map saved as a file, can VRay RT use this map to speed up displaying the animation? Especially if its only following a camera path?

    Thanks!!

    1. There is a script somewhere on the forum that allows you to render animations; let me know if you can't find the thread.

    2. This is not yet decided, so I can't really say right now.

    3. Nope; everything is calculated on the fly (so called "unbiased" calculations).

I think Vlado's answer No 3. is meant to be the answer to No 4.
The answer to No 3. should be: yes, DR is also supported in VRay RT

        Thanks for the reply guys.

If everything is calculated on the fly, is there a restriction as to what GI methods are used? For example Brute Force as primary and Light Cache as secondary? Or does it only use primary and ignores secondary? Basically, what is the best GI method to use with VRay RT? I usually use Irradiance Map and Light Cache, but maybe that doesn't work well with VRay RT?

Thanks again, I'll download the trial and give it a try this weekend.

V-Ray RT will always use brute force GI, regardless of what GI method you have chosen in the production V-Ray settings. However, it will take into account some of the GI settings (GI caustics, primary/secondary multipliers).

Is this still the case that RT always uses BF regardless of which method is selected (i.e., irr map, lc, etc.)

Another request for question 2...an upgrade for RT to GPU at a fair price for first adapters.
