  • How to automatically restart vrayRT render server on crash

    Hi,

I finally started using vrayRT GPU seriously now that it is installed and running on all my renderfarm nodes. So far so good.
The only problem is that the servers crash quite often with some scenes (ususally those not modeled inside max). In that case I have to restart vray RT server on each node. I do that remotely with LogMeIn Ignition But I'd like to automate the process and tell windows to restart vray RT server whenever it crashes. Is there an easy way to do that ?

    Thank you.

There are two things to it; first you have to disable the Windows error reporting dialog, and second, you can create a short .bat file that will run the server in a loop whenever it crashes. I will try to get you more information on this.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Thank you very much Vlado. That will be very useful.
I will search how to disable the Windows error reporting. But for the .bat file... last time I created one was back in the DOS era when I worked with 3d studio R4 !!

If you start rt spawner not only the vray.exe, isn't restarting every time you close vray.exe?

I didn't knew we could desable the Windows error reporting dialog, that's a good one :

Ah, yes. You are right, of course. But I still think that you need the error reporting disabled.

When you say not starting only vray.exe you mean running with this command line : cmd.exe /k vray.exe -server -rtEngine=1 -portNumber=20206 ?
If so this what I'm doing. So now that I disabled error reporting I should be done ?

              Ok got it working now.
Disabling error reporting in the config panel does not remove the popup window that tells you the program has crashed. To prevent this popup from appearing you need to set the value to 1 for this key : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\DontShowUI
