For GPUs - make sure they are well utilized. Increasing rays per pixel makes them more utilized, getting cleaner image faster, but at the cost of some interactivity and feedback.

I was told to use RT in production mode. I tried it and it worked fine. It's not interactive which almost defeats the purpose, but it allows me to use my GPU.

You may increase the interactivity by decreasing the following parameters:
Ray Bundle Size, Rays Per Pixel, Trace Depth, GI Depth

You may also disable features like VRayProxys, Displacement, Motion Blur etc, those also will help to improve the performance.
Please note that some of the parameters like Trace and GI depth will affect the quality as well, others like Ray Bundle Size and Rays Per Pixels will increase the interactivity but the overall rendering will be slower.

              RTMode.zip
This toggles mode by changing a few things, like the ones mentioned above.
It REQUIRES V-Ray RT as activeshade, or will error out.
Feel free to edit, but there is absolutely no support given.
