  • Annoying artifacts when using Adaptive dome + HDR or VraySky

Hello please see images attached for reference, as mentioned I have a dome light with adaptive set to ON and I get these weird lines across geometry on the scene, I tried BF+BF and also get artifacts but look different, similar to unfinished noisy small render buckets.

Is this a known issue for GPU and is there a solution? Thanks

    Please send me the scene.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Most of the cases are solved. Can you send me a scene?

I have a scene where this problem still occurs, even after the latest update. Is Max 2017 and CPU, though.

I can try to guess, but a scene will be most helpful.

I tried to archive the scene, but Maxzip errors out because of the size of the scene file. The packed zip reaches 2gb, then Maxzip gives me an error message. Any hints how I can get the file to you?

If you have 3ds max 2019, try with it.

I'm also getting artifacts with Adaptive dome and GPU in Max 2018.4 and Vray Next Update 1. Please check the screenshot below (contrast intentionally boosted for better clarity). If I turn off Adaptive dome it renders fine. Let me know if you need the scene.

Got it. You should now have an email with the download link.

I just tested, and i can confirm that this bug(square artifacts) still exists on GPU(both progressive and bucket) in latest 4.1 . I reported this originally back in May, included the scene to reproduce it. Ticket 215-462-680. here is todays image to refresh your mind . I can see the logic in the adaptation patterns, but we don`t need to see it, lol.

Did you guys ever find a solution to this issue? This same issue appeared in one of my renders, but I wasn't using adaptive dome.

I was able to solve this by changing the light cache "Mode" to progressive path tracing (it was set to "fly-through"). After I switched this, the artifacts/noise disappeared.

What's your V-Ray version? There are presets for stills and animations.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

You should not be using the "Fly-through" mode and it is in fact hidden in newer versions of V-Ray. As Peter mentioned, it would be best to use the Still and Animation presets respectively.

                              Best regards,
