V-Ray 5 with Forest gives me these boxes. I am using an HDRI.

    Are you perhaps using VrayEnvironmentFog?

Either way try disabling Adaptive Lights.

Yeah, disabling adaptive was my first idea, which didn’t help. No fog and only on my Forest Pro grass.

I just posted something similar, but the blocks in my render are isolated to specific areas, not randomly like yours.

          This hasn't happened since.

I've got them too, but I'm on build 4.30.00 using Bucket sampler with default settings (adaptive lights on, vray sky as gi). I'll try turning off adaptive - had forgotten about that.... What does "Light Tree" do in comparison to Full evaluation/Adaptive?

              Have you disabled denoiser?

No, I have denoiser enabled (default settings). I switched from adaptive to light tree (after looking it up in the docs), which appears to have solved the issue at the expense of additional render time.

If the problem is reproducible, please send a scene over for investigation. I've seen such issues with adaptive lights from time to time, but I believe these have already been resolved, so this is strage.
