  • Scan-lines from RectLight not being refracted through glass material

    Hi,

Trying to investigate behavior when scan-lines are emitted from RectLight (directionality == 1) through shapes made of glass.

When looking into the renderings there seem no bend of rays, something one could expect in the real world for objects like solid cylinder, lens or prism (given all are made of glass).

    Example of the light's texture

    Rendered scenes are below

For lens - note that the grid is not disturbed behind it.

A more proper/correct result can be obtained with some other renderers.

Am I doing something wrong or this is expected? How can I achieve desired results?

    Please help.

Oops, I'm sorry it was a GPU thread.
I wrote the answer for CPU rendering by mistake.

The Ray that passes through the lens is Caustics.
V-Ray GPUs do not support Caustics, so you need to use CPU rendering.
We hope that V-Ray GPUs will soon support progressive Caustics.

      Thanks for replying.
      I'll try CPU rendering.

However, even if it does work for caustics - there is an issue with RectLight emitting orthonormal rays (if one wants to get crisp projected lines).
