  • How to make a random 4 color tile floor?

    Hello,
I have 4 specific colors that my client wants placed on a floor in a random pattern.
They will be 12inch x 12inch square tiles.
I tried generic material>tiles in the texture slot >with Multi-Sub plugged into the color tile texture slot.
Then applying to 1 flat surface (floor).
I can’t get it to work properly.
    Will this method work?
I also made a series of 12”x12” surfaces, then applied the material to all of them. That works with CPU, CUDA/GPU doesn’t’ work.
    Or is there another way?
Using Vray 5.106, Rhino 7.15, Cuda (CPU & GPU).
    Thank you for your assistance,
    Glenn

Using 3DSMax it's simple to use a vraymultisub map on modeled tiles.
Maybe that'll work also in Rhino.

      Hi Glenn,

Could you please upload to me a simple scene for the effect that didn't work on Cuda/RTX but worked on standard V-Ray(CPU)
I will talk to our devs about supporting this on GPU. I will ask around the team as well, incase someone has a workaround for you in Rhino

      Best,

        Hi Muhammed,
Thanks for the reply. Strange thing happened as I was preparing a clean file with just the floor. I rendered with CUDA CPU/GPU and it worked as expected (randomly distributing the 4 colors across the 12"x12" tiles). Then I went back to the complete file, and that worked as expected with CUDA CPU/GPU also.
So now both CPU & CUDA give the desired results.
I have no idea how or why.
        Thanks for the help,
        Glenn

          Hi Glenn,
Thanks for the update, sometimes the GPU drivers go to this odd state specially if you keep the system running for a long time. A system restart should fix this
I'm glad you were able to solve your issue.

          Best,
          Muhammed
