  • VrayGPU 6 Update 1.2 - Normal map issue

I have encountered a problem with a normal map looking different between GPU and CPU

Its been some time since I dug into GPU gotchas and cannot recall if this is a known issue or limitation I have forgotten about.

    MAX24 VRayGPU 6 Update 1.2
    ACES

CPU looks correct with no pattern showing

GPU shows a pattern than seems to match up with the polygon structure of the model, here its quite faint but with more reflectivity it can really be apparent.

Material is straight forward, diffuse map, VrayNormalBump+Normal map using VrayUVWRandomizer with stochastic tiling turned on

Looks like smoothing for any condition seems to be a problem.

This is a diffuse with reflection, little gloss nothing else

    Seems related to using MAX/ACES

The arm pad and frame look better. Maybe something weird happened.
Will keep experimenting with ACES and see. Will reset vray in between.

Switching back to ACES the issues with the arm pad immediately return. Will double check I have the maps set correctly.

I doubt it is a color space issue. Could you simplify the scene and attach it here? Just a plane with the shader exhibiting the difference should be fine.
