  • V-Ray GPU not working at all.

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me sort this issue I'm currently having where V-Ray GPU renders "blank"... no image, no alpha, nothing. No errors either though.

    I'm running 3ds Max 2024.1 with V-Ray 6 Update 1.2 (6.10.08 ) and my RTX 3080ti has the latest Studio drivers (536.99).

I've uploaded a video example of a very simple scene in a fresh instance of Max (and a just-restarted machine) that illustrates the issue.
I'm also uploading a log from my GPU render and the ridiculously simple scene here as well, just in case.

Standard V-Ray works fine, but I just can't seem to get GPU to work at all.

    I'm open to suggestions... Thanks!

I thought it might have something to do with my "devices" settings, but I've tried it under both of these configurations, and still nothing renders.

You might want to try the tested GPU drivers. Recommended NVIDIA driver for V-Ray GPU is version 536.40

glorybound, gold star for you! ⭐

That did the trick, but I'm admittedly a bit embarrassed I didn't think of that before posting. Sometimes "it takes a village", right?

Now I just have to remember which program it was that recently told me I needed to update my drivers... hopefully it wasn't anything critical.

        Cheers!

Yeah, it is a bit of a pain to have to downgrade a driver to use a software.

One thing I also noticed...don't know if it's the same currently, is that Vantage specified a different driver to Vray GPU, which I recall being annoying at the time, as I was utilising both.

Anyone know if there's any chance we can get a version that works with more current drivers any time soon?
I'm now running into issues with other software, and their support is saying it's due to my outdated drivers, which are four months old at this point.

                Hello everyone,
We will be updating the drivers for V-Ray GPU within days, we are putting effort to test and verify there are no issues

I was just now again looking for which was the recommended driver and again it took me 10 minutes to find the page.
                  The page is https://www.chaos.com/vray-gpu
This page I needed to find through a separate Google search, as that link is nowhere to be found on the Chaos main page.

There is nothing in the general GPU section of the help doc page.
In fact, the only reference to using a non-recommended driver mentions that it will show this in the log.
It does not. I am using 536.23.

So whilst eventually I got there....yeah....room for more clarity I reckon

Noted, we have a new draft page which is 99% finished at the moment. It will go live within weeks from now
It includes Hardware guide, and GPU workflow section in addition to a new GPU Render Gallery
And yes, it will have a direct link from Chaos landing page

I just noticed that the latest Studio drivers (546.01) are now supported. Thank you!

[EDIT]: Hmm... The most current Vray installer for 3ds Max that I see is from May 3rd 2023, which is the version I currently have installed. Am I missing something?

Asking again, in case it got missed in the edit to my post above, I see on the GPU page that it says the current supported drivers are 546.01, which released October 31, 2023, however the most current version of Vray for Max released on May 3, 2023.
I suspect this is not correct, but wonder if there might be an update to Vray for Max available around the corner?

                          Hey!

Are you able to access this stable build here?

                            Muhammed_Hamed, yes!

I installed the latest nightly, updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers, and it all seems to be working well so far.
                            Thanks for the tip!
Edit: I just realized I accidentally installed 546.17 drivers instead of 546.01, but everything still seems to be working fine?

                              Hey!

I'm glad to hear it is working
Best is to stick to the version we recommend, you will need to do a clean install then restart your machine to be safe
