  • 3x quadro a4000 gpu memory errors

As i mentioned in headline , i am getting all sorts of memory issues on vray gpu , scene running fine with cpu mode, scene was build up in gpu , having 4.1 gb. its quite big regarding geometry and textures . i tried to optimalize it using small res textures but didnt help at all . Is there anything wrong with my card setup , because those cards running very well with fstorm and redshift , but vray somehow cant work well, 3ds max + vray
Hope you can help me. best regards
    M

Hi, thanks for posting. Please try the V-Ray Benchmark tool as a first step. If it works then your setup is fine and there is something in the scene or you are running out of memory. Try to monitor your GPU parameters during rendering with a dedicated hardware monitoring tool.
If you are not running out of video memory and everything looks ok then we could turn our attention to your scene. But please complete these initial tests, share the results and we will continue with the scene later.

Hi, since the VRay Benchmark Tool seems to run with no issues then the next steps are:

        1. you are running out of memory on your production scene (for instance a mistake in the displacement settings could easily eat all your memory in a seemingly "small" scene)

        2. there is an issue with your scene that is not that obvious or there is a bug that manifests only if specific conditions are met and you got "lucky" with your scene and hit the bug

Please monitor your hardware during rendering and if you have enough memory but still get errors, send us your scene here or through the support contact form for review.

            Hi, thanks for the scene.

Could you follow this important step and share the results:

            1. you are running out of memory on your production scene (for instance a mistake in the displacement settings could easily eat all your memory in a seemingly "small" scene)
You can use this tool or any other dedicated GPU hardware monitoring tool to check if you have enough memory.

              Hello,

              Thank you for the scene!
I'm looking into this now on a machine with a similar multi-GPU setup

              Best,

We caught the issue and there is a fix in in our internal builds for some time. Sorry I didn't update the thread as fast
These type of errors will be easier to tackle with all new builds

                  Best,

                      Hey Martin!

Please try with this build, latest stable 6.2

I tested again your scene now on my 3 GPUs, it works without issues. Here are a few notes
                      • The scene itself takes 17 GB of GPU memory, the A4000 has 16 GB of GPU memory. You will need to use the CUDA engine and Progressive image sampler, as well as Compressed mode to optimize the GPU memory of this scene. Take a look at my article here
                      • If you have 3Ds Max open it takes nearly 7 GB of GPU memory, this is cut from the memory of the GPU connected to monitors. If you try using this GPU for rendering you will get out of memory errors, you either deselect this GPU from the device selector(marked by asterisk*) or if you want to use all 3 GPUs for rendering you will need V-Ray standalone. This is also detailed in the same article I linked above. Scroll to the section about using V-Ray standalone
                      • Light Cache subdivs have a big impact on GPU memory usage, keep that in mind. 2000 might be a good value if you are rendering in 3000 resolution
Let me know if you have questions

                      Best,
                      Muhammed

It will need around 5000 LC Subdivs
Light Cache relies on the rendering resolution
