  • Domelight with GI turned on - image too bright

    Hi,

I notice quite a big difference in brightness between the RT window and the vray rendering.

I set all gamma stuff to 1.0, don't use the srgb button etc for this tests. So there are no gamma curves of any kind applied to the frame buffers or color mapping.

The scene is simply some teapots on a plane.

I noticed the problem first when rendering with a domelight, the difference in lighting is huge! With a plane light it is more subtle but still big enough to be annoying.

When rendering an image lit only by skylight and all direct lights turned off, the RT and normal render look exactly the same in terms of brightness.

    Any ideas?

Do you have the scenes for this (however simple they may be)? I don't seem to be getting this here.

      Hey Vlado,

      here's the scene: www.aversis.be/pots.zip
(try switching the dome to plane too)

Note that when you turn off GI, problem is solved, images look exactly the same. Maybe I messed something up...

Also take a look here, same thing with GI there is a difference, without GI it works:

But the funny thing is that I always like the RT images more (except the overbright one with the domelight).

      Kind regards,

      wouter

      ps it's max2009 on xp64.

I can reproduce this with the official release, but it seems already corrected for the next update.

        Best regards,

Ok great, is it the same issue as this:
          http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...ad.php?t=47354

Can you tell what GI method the VrayRT uses for first and second bounce?

Is the next release in the near future, and will this release also be able to render vrayproxies?

          Thanks,

          wouter

V-Ray RT uses brute force GI for both primary and secondary bounces.

The next update is mostly about bug fixes and minor additions and is very close to being released; support for proxies was not ready for this update and will be added a bit later on.

            Best regards,
            Vlado
