I am getting frustrated as i just got my brand new GTX 580 installed yesterday yet i still getting RT GPU starting properly but window remains black. Can tell RT is processing background but nothing appear on screen. BUt works well in cpu mode. I dun think i delete the .clbin file either after installing the new driver. The newest version of NV driver i'd tried today were v 267.31. any other solution ? Thanks

If you install the nVidia GPU computing SDK, are you able to get any of the OpenCL samples to work?

Also, what kind of scenes are you testing with?

      Best regards,
      Vlado

        HI Vlado,

Yes, just tested NV GPU Com SDK, most of the picture can been seen and some particle simulation from the SDK too. I wondering why it doesnt work on Max, I even tried on both Max 2011,2010 and 2009, all of them work in CPU but not OCL. I works on simple box ,plane with a vray sun . I am going to try the last time, reformatting my computer .

          Problem solved here!

Deleting the clbin did the trick (had hard time to find it, in C:/users/***/AppData/Local/Temp/ - I deleted all the files )

Thanks everyone for your help !

I suddenly have this problem as well. I've been kind of waiting for a new version of RT before investing more time on it so it's been a while. I do know that I have upgraded my ATI 5870 drivers since last time, but the nvidia drivers are the same, and only my GTX460 comes up in the 'Choose OpenCl Devices' tool. I can select it in Render Setup and the statistics shows performance, and updates if I orbit my scene, but the window remains black. Using CPU works.

I've deleted the *.clbin file and restarted Vray and Max, which gave the typical delay waiting for data, but the screen remained black. Any suggestions? When is the update due?

Be sure to re-install the nVidia drvers after deleting the *.clbin file. Then restart Max and RT.

Ok, did that but it unfortunately went from bad to worse. Vray now crashes when it starting the GPU portion. Everything is fine using CPU but when I change to OpenCL, Vray stops working?

I updated the drivers, can that be a part of the problem, perhaps the latest nvidia doesn't work?

Likely, as far as I know. I'm still using older drivers (Version 266.66) and they work fine. Give 'em a shot.

I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted, installed 270.65 which Vlado says works in another thread, and at least it doesn't crash anymore but it still black. I've deleted the *.clbin file a couple of times in case this is a quirk but to no avail. This is all very tiresome. I guess I'll have to use CPU until a new release whenever that is.

Hmmm...as long as you are followig the proper sequence:

                        1. Delete *.clbin file
                        2. Re-install drivers
                        3. Run Max and RT/GPU

It really should work unless there are other concerns. I hope you get it working!

Thanks Alan, I don't know what is going on. I gave it a rest for a couple of days as I was hoping Vlado would send me an early copy of 2.15, but havent heard back and gave it another try to today with the same results. I assume it is somehow related to my mixed environment of ati 5870 and a gtx460, but it has worked flawless until recently.

I'm actually starting to give up on the hope that I one day will be able to run these mixed under OpenCL and am thinking of getting another nvidia to end the hassle. I noticed you had a 460 and a 560 together in the gpu benchmark, and thinking of getting a 560. Do you know if I need sli if I want to run 3 screens? I have two work monitors on dvi, and then one hdmi out for proofing to my tv, and would like the same setup if I can with a 560/460 combo. Anything else to think about if I get a 560?

Well, mixing ATI and nVidia hardware for GPU rendering certainly seems like something that is pretty dang dicely at the moment. Heck, it seems to be hard enough for one company to get their drivers working for their own cards much less make sure they are compliant enough to be mixed with a competitor's hardware. Only time will tell how it will all shake out.

These days I'm actually running a 560i and a 580, who play very nicely together. I'm not sure how much the multi-monitor issue is affected by the GPU rendering or if SLI is needed, but it would seem that if anything, your scene-usable RAM might shrink a bit if you are supporting multiple monitors -- but I don't see why it shouldn't work if the card is capable. As I have little or no experience with this issue, perhaps Vlado could chime in here as he seems to do quite a bit of experimenting!

                            Best of luck to you,

                            -Alan
