  • Crash (reproducable) with OSL thin film map

Max completely closesx without error when doing the following:

    1) Set up a scene with HDRI as light, and backplate as background in environment (Standard HDRI scene)
    2) Create a sphere and assign a glass material to it with IOR = 1.0
    3) disable fresnel reflections and put in the thin film OSL map
    4) Assign material to sphere and start RT. Everything works as expected. Leave RT running when doing the following steps.
    5) Create another material, a VRayLightMtl, assign a noise texture to it, check "compensate for camera...".
    6) Put the same noise map (instance) into the thin film thickness.
    7) Assign the LightMtl to the sphere.
Either here or during the following it will crash:
    9) Change any parameter in the noise texture (size for example)

    Hi,

I followed the steps described but didn't get any crashes when render with RT CPU or CUDA.
Can you attach your file or send to support@chaosgroup.com?

      Hi,

      Thanks.
Uploading atm with the name "Bubble_CG.zip" on your FTP server.

I noticed sometimes it takes me 2 to 3 times changing the noise size until it crashes.

The crash is reproducible with 3.30.05/ Max 2014 but seems to work stable with latest nightly builds and Max 2016. I'm going to test a bit more..
