  • Can't combine Noise + VrayEdgesTex in bump slot

I want to add some rounded corners on an object that has a Noise map. The Noise map by itself renders fine. The VrayEdgesTex map by itself also renders fine. However, I can't seem to combine them and have the effect of both the same way I can in Vray Adv.

I tried with VrayCompTex with "add" operator and I got neither rounded corners nor the bump from the Noise map (yes, I used VrayColor2Bump with the Noise so it works with RT).

Then I tried VrayBump material and plugged VrayEdgesTex in the bump map slot of that material while plugging the Noise map in the bump slot of the base material. The rounded corners worked but I got no noise from the Noise map.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is what I want even possible in RT? VrayEdgesTex, Noise and VrayCompTex are all supported by RT.

I had to use the nightly in order to get it to work.

It should work through the VRayBumpMtl, no need for nightly.

If it was that easy, it would have already been done

Ok, I just did a test and using VrayBumpMtl seems to be working fine! This means that something is not right with the scene I'm working on. Sure enough, it was the geometry that was the problem! It is an imported STP 3D model. I tried flipping the normals, resetting the xform, attaching to newly created objects like box - nothing helped. Then I exported the geometry as an OBJ file and then imported it back in the scene and now the material works!

What could cause this strange problem and can I fix this without exporting my objects to OBJ? This breaks the instanced objects.

Yes, it does work in the official release, but I must note that it doesn't work when you use a composite map to combine normals, unless a new one has come out recently, see here https://forums.chaosgroup.com/showth...download/page3
