I am many similar errors to this when I use the Live Link Animation mode: Sampling counter desynchronized (actual 1, expected 6). Applying correction.
I read in the beta forum that you found a workaround but is the 3.03 release updated?
The rendered images are not produced correctly as they present some trails around the objects due to this error.
Hi,
If you are getting “trails” or “ghosting” effect in animation renderings then you can try turning on :
Preferences :: Render Defaults :: Legacy Mode
Sampling counter desynchronized (actual 1, expected 6). Applying correction.
This warning when a correction is applied for heavy scenes where the sampling requires more work before moving to the next frame.
This is probably an artifact of the temporal denoiser (the Optix denoiser has a temporally stable mode where it tries to match previous frames well -- the “reduce flickering” option in our UI). I guess that the suddenly changing light is “confusing” it. If you render with this option disabled it will probably avoid the artifact but you may get some overall flickering of the rendered frames.
Which NVIDIA driver are you using? The Optix denoiser is updated through drivers.
EDIT: and yes, the “Sampling counter desynchronized” warning is kind of normal in heavy scenes and you shouldn’t worry about it
We managed to come across it when working on a file with multiple cameras. For some reason, we get this warning and an extremely noisy and flickering render preview, even in Live Link.
To demonstrate the issue, there’s a simple file with a plane, a teapot, and multiple cameras. The “Set Key” button in 3ds Max seems to be flickering, as if it’s constantly trying to sync something between Max and Vantage.
It also looks like the issue is not related to denoising. Any thoughts?
Do you have Automatic tilt or Camera Shift activated in 3dsMax ? This can cause the constant refresh (blinking Set key) when running V-Ray GPU IPR as well as Vantage Live link. Is that the case ?
I believe that the latests V-Ray ( 7.4.04) versions has improvements. Are you using an older build ?
Thank you for the confirmation. The 7.4x actually has a warning message added
Warning : Camera instancing is unstable in IPR and should not be used
You should avoid using Camera instancing and Auto tilt corrections, as this will lead to such issues. This is the reason for the Sampling Desync messages in Vantage as the sampling is constantly refreshed.
You are correct, and it’s something we overlooked: the cameras were instanced. We disabled the V-Ray GPU log because it was very stubborn and kept popping up constantly, and the Vantage log doesn’t mention the instancing.
After making the cameras unique, everything goes back to normal. That’s good enough of a solution. Thanks again!
