7.3 question about node material editor

Hello,
Before I update to 7.3, Is the new node material editor mandatory or optional?
And is Asset editor still available with same functionality as 7.2.02?

You can still use the normal material editor on the Assets Editor.
You could decide if you want to use one or the other or both at the same time

As @javierrentas said you can use both editors (using them at the same time is also possible).

Thanks for the reply & excellent video.
To me it seems node editor will be very useful for complex materials, and asset editor for simple materials.
