AA and Alpha -> troubles with geometry edges.....

hi

check this 2 images…

full version

zoomed in in photoshop

i have troubles with the geometry edges… i see a white border around the
whole geometry… and depend on background color it looks very strange

i render with transparency… save it in 16bit png with alpha and make the background in photoshop…

and here are the material settings from the ground

scene settings
-AA settings are adaptive subdivisions 1/2
-AA filtes is catmull-rom
-GI enabled
-1 vray light

is this normal or a bug in the AA or alpha engine… ?

That is just your alpha being premultiplied against black in your rendering, and then viewed over white in PS. Go to the menu => Layer => Matting => Remove black matte, and you should be good.

Unless I totally misunderstood what you were asking.

You also seem to have used a sharpening filter for the rendering; try a blurring filter instead.

as trixian said, this has nothing to do with vray. it’s rather ps that doesn’t know how to deal with premultiplied images. removing black matte can help a wee bit, but for this kind of compositing with ps you’re probably better off saving your output in a format which allow you to choose not to premultiply by its alpha.

Turn your AA filter off entirely, knock up your max subdivisions and sharpen it in post, if you need to. If it doesnt fix it completley, it’ll go a long way to helping.

you can also go to Layer - matting - defringe

many thanks trixian and jacksc02 for your help… it seems that the “remove black color” from the matting menue works…
