Amd 2990wx

Hi @Syclone1

I move our talk about hardware to proper thread and leave My tests to my tests :slight_smile:

I am posting what I bought, will put computer together at weekend.

I think I bought pretty similar gear like you. I bought big tower and very good water cooler, so I think temperature will be good and I want to overclock it too, so I will get around 5500 points in cinebench, will see. I am not a big fan for some lighting effects in case, so I dont look at it, but water cooling had some RGB or something :slight_smile:

Now I have old i7 5960X overclocked to 4,1GHz, which has only 1500 points. And then render xeons with 2500 points :-):slight_smile:

One question, there is more ways how overclock this, what you choose, how you do it?

GT 710 is for my computer I am using now. I will take out GTX 1080 and put it to the new computer of course :slight_smile:

You should have went with the Meg Creation X399 and Gskill TridentZ 3200 MHz RAM for best results
OC should be very simple with your Zenith extreme though
Change the AI overclock tuner to D.O.C.P and below it you will see the pre-configured profile for your RAM
Now change CPU ratio to 38 and CPU core voltage to 1.225
Save changes and restart
Use Aida 64 for like an hour or so and report your temps
They should be below 70 degrees or so
You should get around 5900 points in Cinebench with this OC if you have the Gskill RAM
But if the RAM you bought is slower you will get lower scores
Let use know how it goes

So you do overclock exactly like in youtube video from De3bauer, right? Dont you try master tool from AMD to overclock? Is it bad?

I have almost 3000 MHz RAM build for Threadripper, so I hope it will be good,will see. Let here know, what I get. Wish me luck :slight_smile:

@Syclone1

by the way, fans in your case are really impressive. :slight_smile: What about noise, isnt it loud?

@Muhammed_Hamed

I bought HyperX 64GB KIT DDR4 2933MHz CL17 Fury Black Series.

This RAM should work fine! let me know what kind of score you get with Cinbench
BTW, Der8auer is the best overclocker on earth, holding the world record for many platforms. His OC videos are on point and you can blindly trust him on everything he says
Taking a look at his video, He does change the CPU current capability to 140% which you should do
Don’t use Ryzen master App for OC and don’t use PBO or any auto OC features. They are not as reliable as manual OC

Sure, I know all of that. He is great, I saw his video, this is why I am curious if you just do it his way or try another method too. And did you try changing voltage or just leave it where he did?

btw Der3auer talk about performance enhancer in the same video and recommends Level 3 enhancer for both great single thread and multithread, so I probably do it this way.

Watch his video again!
He recommends performance enhancer for single threaded perfomrance and things like gaming, but for 3D rendering he recommends the 3.8 GHZ OC
Don’t use the performance enhancer if you will be rendering a lot with your machine.
For 3.8 GHz you can leave your core voltage at 1.225
The point of his video is to make OC very easy for you, so you don’t need to change anything.
For advanced users, OC can take time and might require playing with some more settings. If you don’t have experience in this, you should stick to the values he used, but I will tell you how I do this myself
Considering that every CPU is different, depending on silicon quality and other things, Usually when I’m satisfied with the OC I have, I go down on the voltage incrementally doing stress testing for like 10 minutes or so each time(Lower voltages means less power consumption and better thermals)
When I get to the point where the system is not stable anymore, this means this is the limit of what my chip can do and I go back to the last stable value I used doing stress testing for +1 hour
System instability is not just crashing, it might be that you get any errors in Aida 64 or bad benchmarks or inconsistent voltages or multipliers in CPU-Z
Like I said, you really don’t need to do any of this if you have no experience in OC, using the values in Der8auer video should be good enough.
I did push 3 systems to 4.1 GHz stable using the Meg Creation and the H115i Pro, scoring 6200+ in Cinbench
For this kind of extreme OC you will need the X399 Meg Creation and you will need to play with more settings.

:slight_smile: Muhammed, watch it again :slight_smile: On the end he recommend performance enhancer level 3. Single core is not only for gaming, its for all programs. 3ds max is not multicore, whole program work on one core. 140 cinebench or 174 cinebench on one core is big difference for program like 3ds max.

But of course I will try more ways and see, how fast it will be, what temperature I get and so on.

He only recommended performance enhancer for gaming. For rendering and workstation loads he clearly recommended the manual OC
There is A reason why he only talked about performance enhancer for gaming.
Do you really think he is not aware of how 3Ds Max and other apps benefit from single threaded performance??
and btw, Single core performance without level 3 enhancer is 157 and with it enabled, is around 174

No idea where you come up with 140
In the video Der 8auer talked about level 3 enhancer for gaming only..He recommended the 3.8 GHz manual OC for rendering and workstation workloads for many reasons.
What you don’t know about performance enhancer is that it allows your CPU to draw a lot of power than it actually needs for multi-threaded loads like rendering, stressing your VRMs to the limit
I’ve seen it draw up to 700 Watts before!!
You should be careful playing with voltages, with Performance enhancer enabled
If performance enhancer is better why did he even talk about the 3.8 GHz OC??

Doesnt matter. As I said, I will test it and will see, what I got.

I think you just have to play with it and find what works best for you, not all chips are the same either, some OC right up to 4ghz with no issues and others cant get above 3.8 or 3.6ghz. Every system is different and using Der8auer’s method should be as more of a rough guide for your system, Mine will run nicely up to 3.9 quite easily but currently have it clocked down to 3.6 at the moment as it is rendering a job that is going to take a good week or two to render. And after the last 2 days of solid rendering so far its peaked at 44.3C to 44.5C across all four packages which I’m happy with.

Thanks for the compliments on the case and fans, the fans are Corsair LL140 fans set to push on the front and top RAD and I also have 3 NZXT AER-P fans set to pull on the front 420mm rad but they are currently not running as I don’t need them as the Corsair fans are doing just fine. To control the fans and RGB strips I’m using the Corsair Commander Pro which is also hooked up to the Corsair HXi1000 PSU. I wanted to try and maintain a single brand for most of it because with the Commander Pro and iCue software I can monitor everything in real time and see temps, voltages, fan speeds and have setup 3 separate fan curves based on CPU temp so the Front, top and Back fans all have their own settings and it stays very quiet even when rendering. I have an NZXT X62 on my 1920X and 1950X on the other side of the room and they are easily louder than my main workstation.

As for the over clocks I’m just manually setting mine after I did some tweaking and testing and roughly based it on Der 8auer’s videos.

Oh one more thing, dont go for any of the big over clocking like 4ghz plus. Those test and benchmarks are all short term and not intended or recommended for constant everyday use as it will drastically reduce the life of your equipment, and watch your VRM temps along with CPU temps.

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. :wink:

@Jiri.Matys
Der 8auer knows what he was talking about, so it will probably matter
With power consumption of 700 Watts your heatsink on your VRMs will be @ 110 degrees or so
Good luck :slight_smile:

@Muhammed_Hamed
I dont know what you talking about. I know derBauer know what he talking about. And I dont want to overclock too high, I dont need it. I wanna good speed on single core and good speed on multicore. I dont need 3.9 GHz and 450W only on CPU. :slight_smile: I said I want to try more things and see what I get. I really dont want to argue like that.

@Syclone1

Hi man, I want try more things. Now with 5960X and ASUS Deluxe motherboard there are controling fans based on temperature, watts and all other controllers, so I will see what ASUS offers on this MB.

I dont want overclock too high keep watts on reasonable values and temperature too of course. I bought good case, MB and cooling, so I hope it will be good.

Will see, what I get with all ways of OC and select one :slight_smile:

So, after quick installation and cinebench test, I have 5257 points without any overclocking, fantastic result. For one core, I got 171 points, fantastic too. The water cooling Kraken X72 and big tower case do a very good job.

@Jiri.Matys Congrats!
Really nice scores. What Temps are you getting under full load now?

Thank you.
I still have to install all the programs, so I dont know yet. Tested only cinebench, but it takes only few second, so its not very good tepmerature test :slight_smile:

Hey whats the max view port performance like on this CPU. Do you find it lags on large scenes?
