We’re looking to move to 3ds Max 2026 (last Deadline Free support).
When Installing 7.0.1 I only get the options for 3ds Max 2024 - 3ds Max 2027.
Meanwhile, the system requirements in the docs says:
3ds Max Plugin Requirements
- Supported versions of 3ds Max 2027 – 2023 (64 bit).
But then, silent install options also only mentions 2024 - 2027 variables:
-
PLUGIN_3DS_2027_X
-
PLUGIN_3DS_2026_X
-
PLUGIN_3DS_2025_X
-
PLUGIN_3DS_2024_X
Then I thought, ok, might be because it’s a major update (6 to 7) from our current 6.2.1 in 3ds max 2023, so I tried 6.4.0, but that has the same ‘issue’.
Is 3ds Max 2023 only supported up til 6.3.0? or am I missing something?
Asking, because it looks like I can’t have both 6.2.1 installed for 3ds Max 2023 and 7.0.1 for 3ds Max 2026 (the deployment using a config file uninstalls older installs)
Hello @bf_software ,
We confirm the 3dsMax versions officially supported by Anima 7 are 2027-2024, not 2027-2023 as the documentation says at this moment. We have already reported that mistake to the Documentation team and it will be fixed soon, thanks for the heads-up.
That said, notice we still include working compiled plugins in the Anima 7 installations that go down to 3dsMax 2020:
Those versions can be manually installed by following this process:
-
Install Anima using the latest official installer
-
Copy the file “Anima2.MAX.dli” from the subfolder “\3dsmax\Plugins”
(i.e. C:\Program Files\Chaos\Anima\3dsmax\Plugins\[workstation | rendernode]")
Use the folder “workstation” or “rendernode” depending on the installation mode you selected for Anima.
-
Paste that file inside the “Plugins” subfolder from the root path of your 3dsMax installation
(i.e. C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2020\Plugins)
-
Copy the subfolders “aXYZ” and “Startup” from the subfolder “\3dsmax\Scripts”
(i.e. C:\Program Files\Chaos\Anima\3dsmax\Scripts)
-
Paste them inside the “scripts” subfolder from the root path of your 3dsMax installation, overwriting older Anima plugin installations if needed.
(i.e. C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 2020\scripts)
After that, you should be able to use the Anima plugins in those older 3dsMax versions too.
