anybody using Max6 & Vray ?

I started to work with Max 6 today, many crashes when changing the UI.
Then I started to work with Vray… more crashes…
I can’t discripe everyone, but it seams to be extremly buggy.

I hade vanishing objects, color picker problems, UI problems etc…

Anybody else found something?

robert

Co-incidentally the same question I was going to ask. We are ready to make the leap to Max 6 (from 4) and I need to know if there are any serious problems with Max and VRay at those versions…

well ive been using it 10 hours a day 5 days a week since it come out and i must say it’s the most stable its ever been… max and vray, my only Gripe is that vray hasn’t included DR

The same as Natty here

no issues yet.

strange… It seams like some people have no problem at all, while others here and in the discreet support forum have a real horror with it…

As far as I checked it, it could be related too:

1. Hyperthreating (maybe)
2. Language of system
3. Service Pack of windows
4. Hardware (don’t think so)

well, any findings could be helpfull to find the bug…

regards,

robert

I’m using hyperthreading and it seems to be working fine (at the moment)

Hm…

I installed Max 6 again today without any plugins… runs stabil now.

As soon as I add Vray i get crashes and problems. The biggest problem seams to be Vray in the material editor.

Hope ChaosGroup start fixing the Max 6 build soon…

regards,

robert

I’ve been using max6 and vray for a couple weeks and very few problems. Actually I don’t think ANY were related to vray. I’ve been quite pleased so far.

I say go for it, but proceed with caution.

ok, I take back my nice comments about max6. Just today I’ve had about 6 crashes. I don’t think they’re vray related though.

max6 and vray for 2 weeks now…works perfectly, not 1 single crash!

which version of vray workds with max 6? i have M and its not working with Max 6.

On the download page there is a MAX6 version of “m”

It´s strange but in my version shows a script call error when i opened the VrayObjectPropertys from right mouseclick.

Please Implement VRAY DR in Max6

Right click , then vray properties on an object, doesnt work in max6 this will hopefully be fixed in the next release. You can still get to the object properties thru the system rollout in the render panel.

More info about DR in max6 (or lack off) can be found here

I switched over to max 6 last week, everything has gone smoothly, only one machine kept crashing and since we updated the graphics driver that is sorted too…

Maybe try updating the graphics card drivers?

Cheers

Neil

Hi Robert,

(I thought I had answered to this thread before, but seems I did not)
VRay working perfectly with max6 in production for a significative time now (through all the beta).

NOT any major problems all this time

Only issues I’ve found is that if while rendering, go to Frame Buffer window, and pan and zoom in and out, the rendering may crash (not always), The Architectural Materials that DO work with VRay do not show as they should in the material Editor. Other than that it behaves for me exactly the same it does for VIZ4 in the same system.
System is very stable

I am using 1.09.03i (which may be a build growing old)
I am not using DR, but standard netrendering works as expected.
My works is basically arch. viz. still renderings, and some simple walktrhoughs.

My problem with VRay is the high poligon frontier, but that I konw is soon to be open free

Dual AMD 2000+ on Tyan Tiger MPX
2 gigs DDRAM

GeForce 4 Ti 4800SE GPU using Nvidia Detonator & Open GL

Am I missing something here - there seems to be no advanced versions available for download? I was after a Max 6 compatible one.

thnx

Jim,

VRay advanced 1.09.03m is been available for download since September.
May be the other versions are not ready yet.
