Asset Browser previews render black for models with V-Ray materials

Hi,

I’m currently in the process of migrating our studio pipeline over to Cinema 4D 2026.1.4 with V-Ray as our primary renderer, and I’ve encountered a significant workflow issue with the Asset Browser.

When saving models with V-Ray materials to a shared database in the Asset Browser, the preview thumbnails render as solid black squares. The models themselves import and render correctly when dragged back into a scene — it’s only the Asset Browser previews that fail to generate.

I’ve tested this with untextured models and the previews generate correctly. The issue only occurs once V-Ray materials are assigned, which suggests the Asset Browser’s preview renderer doesn’t support V-Ray material types.

This is a major workflow concern for us. We have hundreds of fully textured furniture models that need to be uploaded to our shared library, and manually rendering and assigning custom thumbnails for each one isn’t a practical solution at scale.

Setup details:
- Cinema 4D 2026.1.4
- V-Ray 6 for Cinema 4D (latest stable build)
- Windows 11
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3090
- Using a shared network database

Thanks for your time — happy to provide scene files or screenshots if needed.

Best regards
