Problem Preview material vray 7

Hi,
I’ve been having preview issues with materials for a while now. I’ve also installed the latest build (V-Ray 7 for Cinema 4D, Hotfix 1 (v7.00.01 from Feb 11 2025) but the problem remains.
this does it with standard vray materials while with noded materials it works fine

I’m on windows 10 and Cinema 4d 2025.1.2

thanks

Hi @visualtracing There are couple of things for you to try.

1. Check the server if the licenses are correctly connected: Local Host License

2. Check if you have set the Render Engine to V-Ray from the Render Settings

3. Check if the Render > Node Space is set to V-Ray

4. Go to Materials > Render Materials and see if anything changes

Finally, it might be an incorrect installation. Did this issue appeared out of nowhere or after a certain change you have done?
Did it start with V-Ray 7 or you have had it with V-Ray 6 as well?

Please, let me know how it goes.

Hi, thanks for your support.

I had this problem since version 6. I checked everything you asked me but every now and then I always have some shader that does not display the preview,

Thank you for letting me know! The issue is logged into our system [VC4D-2683] and will be looked into

The same thing happens to me too, very annoying, it happens to me since I installed the latest version of Cinema 4D.

this issue has persisted since 5, there are many posts about it. I was hoping it would finally be resolved, but I guess we’ve lived with it for this long.

Hi @visualtracing I am glad to inform you that the issue has been fixed and you can find the implemented fix into the latest Stable build. Please test it and share your feedback: Chaos

hi, it seems solved thanks! I opened various scenes and they work fine. thanks

Thank you for letting me know @visualtracing

Hi,
I’ve been having this problem for some weeks now and can’t see any preview of the materials. I’ve tried the settings Viktor described above, but the problem persists. Do you have any other ideas what might be causing it?
The licence server works fine. The problem just occurs with vray node materials and vray classic materials. The preview of classic cinema materials is shown.

Cinema 4d 2025.3.1 | Vray v7.10.01

Hello @klex167 , I’m sorry to hear you are still experiencing this issue.
Do you recall when the problem first appeared, was it after a specific update of V-Ray or Cinema 4D?
Also, does it occur in a new scene as well, or only in a specific one?

Hi Daniel,

its like 2-3 weeks since I experience this problem. It could be after an update of cinema/vray. I’m always updating both of them at once.
I can recall that I updated on June 5th. So may be it started with the version C4D 2025.3.0 and Vray 7.10.01(33120).

Do you think I should uninstall everything and install it again? I’m afraid of all the settings I have.

Could it be a rights issue for a folder?

Thanks - Björn

@klex167 Before I advise you to reinstall everything, I will first check if I can reproduce the issue on my end.
If it turns out to be some type of regression, you might want to roll back the V-Ray version, but I’ll let you know what I find first.

Hello @klex167 I tested on my end with multiple different versions of V-Ray and Cinema 4D but was unable to reproduce the behavior.

Could you possibly try using a newer stable build and let me know if that works for you?
If it doesn’t, we can take it further from there.

Here is the latest stable - Chaos

Hi @daniel.kapsazov
unfortunately, that didn’t work. I uninstalled Cinema and VRay and reinstalled both with the latest versions. But the problem is the same as before.

Hi,

Are you using an old scene? Does the same problem occur when opening a new Cinema4D file?

One more thougt: I often have the problem that cosmos browser can’t connect and I have to reinstall Vray again. This happens from time to time and I can’t tell why. Now, after installing everything again this problem occurs again. See attachement.
Could this connection issue be related to the preview issue?

Screenshot of cosmos browser:

HI @visualtracing
it is the same with old scenes and new scenes. when I’m creating a new vray material the preview is empty. Or sometimes I see a grey sphere but nothing changes.

very strange.. maybe a video would be useful to the developers.
