Dear V-Ray Users, Autograss, a new grass plug-in for V-Ray on 3ds Max, is now available: Autograss Autograss is one-click grass for V-Ray for 3ds Max. Autograss is a one-click grass solution completely integrated with V-Ray. It is a V-Ray primitive so it …

thanks voltron7 I’ll make some more tests looking to improve the render times… I’ll share any coming idea…

It is as fast as they show in the videos - I see no additional time cost at render time Maybe some other setting in Vray is causing the delay ? Leave the 250 MB limit as it si - it will be good for most jobs (even large Grass areas) I did find something which is not so good - if you use more th…

Take a look at the sample files, they dont use any GI at all or only low BF Settings, thats why its so fast in their vids and examples. On a recent project i switched from autograss to Forest Pro because of the high rendertimes i was getting, it was fine for small previews but when it came to render…

Try forcing it not to generate GI. I always select all the plants in my scenes (even Forest Pack Pro) and uncheck the Generate GI option. I use AutoGrass and FPP almost all the time at the same time Nir

found a weird bug. lets say you have a nicely setup grass that works perfectly…now…youre creating a new scene and you want to merge the grass object that works nicely from the other scene…you do that…select autograss gizmo and pick a new object for autograss to generate the grass on. For some reas…

I also have problems with render times - which means animation is not an option!

IMO good grass quality render and low render time is impossible. You can try with low grass length, no specular, low density, but I found that VRayscatter is better for rendertime and geometry quality. But for large surface VRayScatter consume a lot of RAM. But it’s fast. In VRaygrass you can’t cu…

Also important the Autograss memory limit. In my test: 2048= 3min 0sec 1024= 3min 44sec 512= 4min 55sec 256= > 6min

I don’t know if cal that “bug”. But I’ve a big plane with autograss. All CPU, node include, are 100% CPU usage if i render only the plane. When I active my VRayscatter (not very heavy, just some tree) stuff, the CPU work from 50 to 80. VRay Memory = 4 GB , AutoGrass 1 GB. If I render only the pla…
