I noticed that Cinema4D 2026 changed the default color management of a scene to “ACESCG” so when I using Corona Render materials and Cinema4D output auto save, the image become more dark than original due to the Cinema4D color management.
You must to switch to Legacy Linear Workflow on project settings to avoid it.
For Devs: could you think that Corona will change automatically this parameter to avoid this issue in the future?
Unfortunately this settings is a little bit “strange” for a new user (I’m teaching often Corona Render here on our Studio)
We are aware of some color management-related issues, but could you please explain how exactly to reproduce this problem? I would like to double check it.
Thanks for your replay. Very strange that anyone has not noticed this issue.
start Cinema4D 2026
Create a new scene and go to “EDIT” menu > SCENE SETTINGS
Go to Color management panel on attribute manager, si attached image…
there you can see yourself that Maxon has changed to ACESCG the whole color space, so materials, textures and rendering sent to Picture viewer become totally different from the VFB.
To solve this issue you must click into: CHANGE RENDER SPACE and set “Legacy linear workflow” otherwise Cinema4D apply two times the ACES profile…a total disaster due to Maxon changes on scene profile.
Corona Render get many issue from this settings, materials, normal maps, all become totally different and when you set on render settings the automatic image saving, the image become totally different, so you must save the render from the Corona VFB…
Thank you for that information! While our main template file kept the legacy workflow enabled by default, some tests in blank, new C4D files really surprised us with wrong looking materials all over the place. I guess many users aren’t aware of that because the older templates ignore that change completely.
We don’t yet know exactly how to implement the new workflow. That’s why we’ll probably stick with the legacy workflow in 2026. Maybe theres a nice and easy way in the near future.
Hi, I don’t think the new color management should “break” anything in older files. What exactly becomes wrong with your materials? Could you contact us with a sample scene which renders fine when using the sRGB workflow but breaks when using the ACES workflow? The best way to contact us is through https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
We do support ACES. There may be some issues when migrating from the legacy color management to ACES (e.g. materials may not look as expected), but other than that it should work fine. If something isn’t working right, please contact us and we will look into it.
