I’ve found that information on color editing a texture file within Vray/Sketchup is hard to find, inconsistent, or just downright incorrect. How do you edit the color of the material in Vray for sketchup? It appears there is a filter option called “ColorCorrection”. How do you apply this option to other materials? Also, is there a way to edit .tx texture file in some editor similar to Photoshop? I need to be able to manipulate color and there doesn’t seem an easy way to do it.
Right click on main material in the list, wrap in - color correction..
Hello @kenancakir , Thanks for your reply. I’ve tried that, It’s not on the list of options when I right-click. I’m running version 5.10.02, maybe it’s in the newer version?:
Hi magdaleno_marin,
I’ve found that information on color editing a texture file within Vray/Sketchup is hard to find, inconsistent, or just downright incorrect.
How do you edit the color of the material in Vray for sketchup? It appears there is a filter option called “ColorCorrection”.
First of all we have to differentiate between a material and a texture.
Every material is a collection of parameters (with specific values) and textures that control some of the parameters.
In most case in order to color correct a material you have to correct one of it’s textures - the one which gives it an overall color.
For most materials the Difuse / Color slot texture is the one you’re interested in.
There are many ways to color correct textures in V-Ray.
The workflow you choose will depend on what you’re after.
One very simple option is to open the texture properties and set a color in the Color Manipulations / Color Gain slot:
Another option is to add a correction map in-between the material and the texture as suggested by @kenancakir .
The way you do it is by right-clicking on the texture slot in the material and choosing a correction map from the Wrap In menu:
The most straight forward choice from this menu is the Color Correction map.
It gives you some basic Hue, Saturation, Brightness, Contrast, … parameters that you can play with.
Another option is to apply one of the curve correction maps - Spline or Bezier Curve - to remap the texture color values.
The Mix Operator will give you a color and some blending modes to choose from. The color in this case can be used as a filter.
Also, is there a way to edit .tx texture file in some editor similar to Photoshop? I need to be able to manipulate color and there doesn’t seem an easy way to do it.
The .tx texture files can be edited and then saved in a different file format.
To edit a .tx file just make a copy outside of the built-in material library folder and change the file extension to .tif
You can then just open the file in Photoshop.
I wouldn’t recommend changing the contents of the built-in library.
Hope that helps,
Konstantin
@konstantin_chaos Yes, this is exactly what I was trying to accomplish. I’ll try editing the .tx file based on how you recommended. I’ll let you know how it works.
