Hi! I am using Corona 8 (Hotfix 2) Trial Version & 3dsmax 2023.
I have observed that all the material slots in the ‘compact material editor’ take a bit long to fully load. This happens even in a fresh new file with plain gray ‘Standard Legacy’ materials in all slots. The issue occurs once every time the material editor is opened in for the first time in a 3dsmax scene.
Any resolution for this will be greatly appreciated!
Is this only happening to you guys in the compact editor, or also in Slate? (according to last post Slate is faster)
You can try going to Render Setup > System > System settings and lowering the quality of the material editor previews, or switching them to the default 3ds Max ones. This will speed up preview rendering.
Also make sure that you are using “High performance” or similar power plan in Windows. I noticed many times that with other plans the 3ds Max UI is sluggish unless you are rendering at the same time (the CPU is not in full throttle mode).
not to hijack someone else’s thread, but we’re also often using compact editor and this is ultra slow. lowering the preview quality for material editor makes 0 difference. i.e. 1.0 and 0.1 is the same slowness, just with bad quality preview.
Are you all seeing this in Max 2023? If you try 2020-2022, is it any faster?
There were some changes in material editor’s UI, who knows, maybe it’s related.
Confirmed and reported. No idea what is causing it right now and no workaround other than switching to Slate or disabling the auto update option, sorry.
the speed of my slate material editor has always been extremely laggy while utilizing real time rendering. when clicking on any node, it takes sometimes 5-10 seconds to load a single node. these seconds add up and I sometimes just dread to work at all. i spend more time waiting for nodes to load while i am real time rendering than actually doing any creative work. it is extremely frustrating and I have no idea what’s the deal with this constant lag. does this have to do with complexity of the scene? any help would be great!
I am running on a threadripper 3990x and a RTX 3080 and 3ds max 2022… although it’s been laggy on 2020 as well.
