cosmos workflow

hello team

i was working on a maya project with cosmos assets. all locally on my computer. when i copy pasted my maya project onto my NAS so my server can access the vrayscenes it wasnt able to access my locally stores cosmos assets.
im sure you ara ware of this. can we have some sort of choice to store all downloaded assets in our project folder (sourceimage)? i have to manually copy paste all assets and relink them. this is very annoying and should be easily fixable in my opinion.

thanks

Hi!

You can set up the Chaos Cosmos assets to be downloaded in a project folder of your choice. You can do this from the settings option in your account

If you set it up to be a project folder of your choice the paths in the proxy should also be relative
You would need to move older downloaded assets and maybe relink the olde scenes that require them but Cosmos also has the option to download missing assets.

Hope this helps

ohhhhhh ok. nice! never knew / saw that there was a settings menu. but i would have to change the path when i swiitch project. maybe something for the team to consider? a tick box to make cosmos save assets in the currently set project direction(?) that way it would be global unles otherwise specified.
thanks for the help. much appreciated

I suppose the upside to consistently keeping the same folder is that cosmos assets can be reused throughout different projects without re-download them every time. If you suggest a new folder location, Cosmos will list as downloaded only the assets in that are in the specified folder and you’d need to download them there again to use them in your new project. This helps with not cluttering your machine with several copies of the same asset. That being said, it sounds like a reasonable request and the Cosmos team can consider it

You can add this in the Cosmos idea portal ?

Thanks in advance!

quick follow up. i started a new project and wanted to try this “new method”. i replaced the path and directed cosmos to my current project on the one drive. i wasnt able to import any asset. it said it wasnt possible to find the asset. quick google search and speaking from experience, one drive can introduce issues because of permissions.
the fix is to relocate the cosmos path to default. meaning it is “local” to the computer and then import the asset. then copy paste the asset to the maya folder on one drive and then re-path inside maya. can this be fixed?

As far as I’m aware it should be possible to use one drive as a location for your assets. Did you download/move your assets to the new location? You can also submit a support ticket here https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new so they can figure out what exactly is going wrong and assist you directly.

done  and yeah it doesnt work for me. pretty strange and i dont know why it does that. literally just tested it this morning. same project on the desktop and switching cosmos to that maya project works right away. on the one drive it wont load assets.
