Direct 3d - crash ?

Hello friends !

I’ve got a scene file, and I can’t open this scene file if I use Direct 3D and Vray. It crashes all the time.

If I switch to Open GL, it works - but it’s really hard to handle.
Is this a vray issue or more a common problem with 3dsmax ?

thx for every little help,
bernhard

This may happen if you have the “Display maps in viewport” option checked for V-Ray materials. This is already corrected for newer builds.

Best regards,
Vlado

hmm..

than you vlado, you mean in the material editor “Show map in Viewport”, with the blue/white box as icon ?

just to get sure we are talking from the same…
thx,
bernhard

vlado this seems to be the most common crash in our office. i see it at least once per week. whats the word on officially releasing RC4…weeks, or months away?
thanks,
-joe

Month (one).

Best regards,
Vlado

you guys (chaos) coming to Siggraph?

Yep, we’ll be there; not sure what is the booth number though, I’ll have to check.

Booth number is #221 (Chaos Group)

Best regards,
Vlado

I also get crashes in direct 3D, working in openGL for now but looking foward to the fix!

YES PLEASE FIX

yes, please do wha ever you guys can do in development.
I have to work with large scene files every day, and switchng from direct3d to open gl is really a crunchy thing… :?

lol: so go, go go… would love to work with direct3d…

thx a lot,
appreciate that,
bernhard

is there a script to check and to automate of turning of maps in the viewport for every materials?

cheers

Hi guys,

I’m sorry to bring this topic back. I don’t have any problems when the ‘show map in viewport’ is checked inside the bitmap parameters, but when I drag a empty slot on top of this bitmap, the max crashes. The same thing occurs when I choose the Color Correct plugin, and I check to keep the old material as submaterial if the ‘show map in viewport’ is checked.

HAWF I almost get the same as you. Not when I drag an empty slot over the bitmap, but when I drag another bitmap over it. I mean when I try and replace the bitmap in diffuse or wherever by just dragging another over it. About 80% of the time this crashes MAX. (Although I havent had this problem for about a month now) can’t remember if I’m using a newer build now or the same one…
However I still prefer OpenGL over DirectX. Even with 1.5 SP1 OpenGL gives me less MAX problems than Direct3D

How about a built-in non script option: Views > Deactivate All Maps
