Distributed Rendering and Network Mapped Drives

Hi all

I’m coming from a long background in 3DS Max with V-Ray. I’m getting into using V-Ray with Houdini now. When enabling distributed rendering, I’m getting the following warning:

These files are located on drives in my main server machine. Those drives are shared to the networked and mapped from all render clients with the same letter. In 3DS Max this is no issue. Max and V-Ray just treat the network mapped drives as regular drives, the client machines are able to all see the files, and rendering progresses normally. However, in Houdini, this is not the case. Is there some sort of variable or path I have to set somewhere so V-Ray for Houdini knows to use files from shared drives?

Thank you!

Hello,

Am I correct in assuming that these messages are printed only when doing distributed rendering - and rendering locally works fine? Could you please confirm that is the case?

Best regards!

Hello,

I realized I should’ve been more specific - I am wondering if disabling Distributed Rendering and running IPR, or a production render, *only* from the workstation where Houdini is open, will produce the same issue.

Best regards!

Correct. Normal rendering and IPR works as expected. If I set the DR to transfer missing assets it seems work as expected, but shouldn’t it just pull the files from the mapped network drive?
