dwg import trouble

When I import a dwg file to max, I get polyfaced exploded objects.
Could anyone help?

(I tested the same dwg file with different computers. They are OK.)

Thanks

try deep exploration, it can do a better covnersion.

Thanks for the advice but isn’t there a way to fix without using another software?
Only one of our computers is exploding solids. Others are OK.

how are you importing the solids? are you using the file link manager?

Yes, I use File link with welding unselected.

What’s the ‘file link manager’ do that importing doesn’t? Logic would tell me it only ‘links’ a CAD file and not import it.

it imports but it keeps an active link, so if you modify/add geometry to a layer in autocad, it will dynamically update that layer and retain any stack/material information on that layer.

The advance of file-link is very simple. If you edited a dwg drawing just reload the link in Max and it keeps it (in max assigned) material and modifiers in the stack.

If you import it again you have to find out first which layers u edited and reassign the whole stuff again (material, uvw and other modifiers).

It’s much faster and efficient. After 6 yrs of modelling in autocad i know

Brr shouldn’t even think of modelling that stuff in Max like we did in the late 90’s brrr
