Entourage with Vray (e.g. people, trees)

I got a rather large contract to do some outdoor shots of shopping mall. The client wants A LOT of people and trees in the view. I woudl like to ask if anyone has experience with comparison of putting people/trees in the model, versus addiding them later in the photoshop. I know there have been a lot of problems with Vray and RPC.

Also I was using mostly alpha chnnel trees so far, if I am going to put them in model, any suggestion for package Speed tree versus something other and their compatibility with Vray?

Thanks,

Radim

re:

At first I used rpc trees, but I would crash after I saved the image…there’s no way I could animate the scene needless to say. I had to use forest pro which is just foliage w/ alpha channels. I tried using onyx tree storm, converting all the trees into meshes, but the poly count got ridiculous.

if it is a still, then doing it in photoshop is waaaay easier than the extra time and hassels of 3d

what about max/viz’s built in trees?

They suck at high level - they are useful for “mass models” at medium or low level. Jsutmy opinion. =)

oh, so why not do a simple model of a tree with leaves then?

Yes, I failed to mention it is a still production, no animation here. BUt therea re issues like reflection ig glass etc which you must doctor in if it is a photoshop job

get a lot of tree pictures and slap them onto planes w/ opacity mapping…you dont need to rotate around them, so not much problem
