Explosion spreading rather than rising

I maxed out fuel and smoke buoyancy (10.0) but my explosion is still spreading rather than rising. I’ll post a video in a moment.

What kind of geometry do you use? You can add a discharge modifier to Source’s discharge and make the emission only on the top side of geometry (Normal Z mode). In this way, the spreading should be reduced.

Check this out:

Also, note that rising up mostly depends on the temperature and gravity, as well as on the simulator scene scale.

And one more thing - if you have a strong discharge near a solid obstacle, it’s normal for the explosion to flatten out.

Cheers!

I replaced it with a disc and now it bangs off to the side :frowning:

Too small disc for that resolution. Increase the grid’s resolution or size of the disc.

Larger disc, finer grid resolution fixed it. Now how do I get rid of the lingering orange and turn it into smoke?

Experiment with the render settings  The GPU preview could help you iterate more quickly.

Cheers!
