EXR Color Management

Hello

I am having a Gamma/Color Issue when saving EXR Files.
Did the color management change lately.
So far I had perfect matching colors from Vray Framebuffer to other Programms (Photoshop, AE, …)
but lately I get washed out colors when saving out EXR.
This doesnt happen when I save in other formats (jpeg, png, tiff)

Perhaps I missed some new setup/workflow

Thanks
Martin

Hi Martin,

here is an tutorial how you can apply a view transformation in PSD to get perfectly matching colors:

For AE/PSD there are OCIO plugins available:

Hope that helps,
Lars

thanks for your reply
I installd the OCIO plugin and it works fine

as this has not been necesarry before, I would like to know,
if it is possible to reset Maya/Vray to the “old” settings, so I can open EXR in AE/Nuke without a plug?

Hello,

Yes it is possible,

Then swap the frame buffer to sRGB instead of sRGB, this was the default in older versions of Vray

On another note, Nuke don’t need a plugin to use ACES. Nuke 12 and 13 come with ACES 1.1
ACES has many advantages in Vray when it comes to saturated lights, tone mapping and wide gamut rendering, it is just that Photoshop lacks color management at the moment hence it is a little harder to use ACES there

Best,
Muhammed

thanks for your explanation in depth
I totally see the advantage of OCIO / ACES and for sure PS/AE will come up with a native connection in the near future.

have a great day
Martin
