How to load exr renders in Affinity Photo and get the same color results as in V-Ray using ACES workflow?

I am switching to the ACES color management in 3dsmax 2026 and it works flawlessly with DaVinci Resolve and Fusion but I can’t find a configuration that would allow me to load stills saved as exr in Affinity Photo for further postproduction. I selected the OCIO config that 3dsmax uses in the Affinity Photo Colour settings but I can’t find any working combination for the OCIO adjustment to get the same result as I see in the VFB. Does anyone had success in this field?

It seems anything with ACES these days dosnt seem to just ‘work’ having similar issues with ACES renders and ColorIO in Photoshop.

I don’t have an Affinity license to test this, but there seems to be options to choose an OCIO config file in Affinity. As for Photoshop, it is done through Edit > Convert to OpenColorIO, where you select a config, working space, and Input Color Space (ACEScg).

Thanks.. the issue i had is i couldnt find the right config that matched the VFB in Vray.. colors always seemed a bit ‘off’.. this might be partly due to my lack of experience in color profiling but it was hard to just get a perfect match. This was when comparing a EXR in the method you describe vs saving a PNG directly from the VFB (Also taking into account my monitors ICC which i had set in the VFB).

Did you manage to match them?
